CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – K-9 Officer Joseph “Joey” Scruggs was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in front of a room filled with friends and well-wishers this week.
Chief Ansley officiated the ceremony at Police Headquarters.
Officer Scruggs was hired with the Clarksville Police Department on January 1, 2000, beginning his career in the patrol division. He was selected to assume the role of a Field Training Officer in January 2005. While acting as a Field Training Officer, he was chosen to be a K-9 Officer in November 2005. He continued in the position as a K-9 Officer until his promotion to Sergeant on May 1, 2019.
Sergeant Scruggs is being assigned as a Night Shift Sergeant in District 1 (North Clarksville).
His K-9 partner Solo recently retired after seven years of service with Sergeant Scruggs.
“The Police Department’s promotion process is highly competitive and Sergeant Scruggs’ selection for promotion reflects favorably on himself and the Clarksville Police Dept,” spokesman Jim Knoll said.
