CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview Hawks soccer team traveled to Hilda J. Richardson Field for a rivalry matchup with Clarksville High on Monday. The Wildcats got on the board early and added another score in the closing minutes for a district win, 2-0.
The Wildcats came out firing, getting a couple of scoring chances early. It only took until the fourth minute for Aubrey Nelson to tap in a deflection into the goal, and Clarksville took an early 1-0 lead.
Clarksville head coach Sara Kluttz was happy to see her squad flip the script. “We’ve been scored on early in a lot of games,” said Kluttz. “We have learned a lot about mentality and intensity as we start, and we got one early which was huge. I’m proud of how they came out tonight.
Rossview responded well to the goal, controlling possession for most of the remainder of the game. The Hawks offense, led by forward Cassandra Villa, had a lot of dangerous chances, but couldn’t find the back of the net against Clarksville.
“It felt like we out-possessed them, and the score doesn’t reflect that,” said Rossview head coach Connie Castleman. “In soccer you have to put the ball in the back of the net to win games, and ultimately they did and we didn’t, that’s what bit us tonight.”
Ole Miss commit Bekah Allen added an insurance goal in the 74th minute, and Clarksville won 2-0, with a shutout performance from goalie Addie-Jane King.
Kluttz is going to enjoy this win with her team, but knows there is room to improve. “We left some goals out there tonight,” she said. “However, our focus and composure in such an emotional game was great. Our defense as well played hard, strong, and AJ and our backline did a great job.”
