CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville High Wildcats hosted the Collierville Dragons for a win-or-go-home matchup at Clarksville High School for a chance to advance to the state tournament. While the Wildcats were able to go on a few scoring runs, the Dragons defense proved too much to overcome as CHS fell 3-0, ultimately ending their 2024-25 season.
During the first set, Collierville and Clarksville High went back and forth with a number of long rallies, however, Collierville eventually won 25-13. After losing the set, the Wildcats came back out to the court with something to prove as they jumped out to an early 7-0 lead.
Brooke Moon (10 assists) and Keira Garinger played a pivotal role in the team’s quick start to the second set. Clarksville High head coach Glen Fox told Clarksville Now he was proud of the energy his team showed.
“I thought we did some really good things,” Fox said. “Collierville is a very, very good defensive team but we competed well with them tonight. We don’t play a lot of long rallies like that, but we adjusted and found some success.”
However, the Dragons would overcome the seven-point deficit to go on a 25-5 scoring run, clinching the second set of the matchup.
Clarksville made a last-ditch effort to avoid elimination by taking a 19-13 lead in the third set, but Collierville came back and won the third set 25-23, sealing the match. This marks Clarksville High’s seventh straight year they have lost in sub-state.
For the typical fan, it’s easy to look at all of the end-season results and see the same team. However, Fox thinks that this particular squad had a competitive edge unlike any other.
“This group competed at a very high level,” Fox said. “We had a lot of success against tougher opponents, and our defense was better than past years. Make no mistake, this team was bought in.”
