CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville High Wildcats girls’ soccer team traveled to Exit 1 at Northeast High for a District 13-4A matchup with the Eagles on Tuesday. The Wildcats used a strong six-goal second half to win 9-0, highlighted by a hat trick from both Aubrey Nelson and Sarah Mann.

The Wildcats’ offense caught fire early, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes of play, one each from Aubrey Nelson, Sarah Mann and Lily Vargas. Northeast’s defense tightened in the final 30 minutes of the half to stop the bleeding, and the score remained 3-0 at the halftime break.

However, the second half quickly got out of hand, with the Wildcats scoring three more goals in the first 10 minutes of the second period, including two from Mann and one from Kinley Long. The Wildcats added three more goals by the 63rd minute from Jacie Guilleromo and two from Nelson to mercy-rule the Eagles and earn a big inner-city victory to kick off their district season.

“Honestly, it’s nothing complicated, we just need to get back to basic soccer,” said Northeast head coach Thomas Mosely. “Trying to be fancy and cute isn’t going to work; it never has. The best teams do the basic things right, and show up for big games, and that’s what we have to do moving forward.”

As for the Wildcats, they’re continuing their hot start to the season with a big win; however, Wildcats head coach Sara Kluttz knows there’s a lot more work to be done for this team to reach the goals they’ve set.

“I think overall we came out a bit flat, so I was hard on them at the half,” said Kluttz. “We came back out with more fire and heart, which is what I hope to see from this team. I gave them a challenge, and they responded really well. We’ve got a lot of work to do, we’re on the right track, but our district is very competitive, so we’re trying to focus on ourselves and get better every day.”
