CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville High Wildcats traveled to West Creek High School for the region 7-3A soccer semifinals on Tuesday. A shutout by the Wildcats, and two timely goals from Carter Kalgren, powered the Wildcats to a 2-0 win, advancing them to the region championship and ending the Coyotes’ season.
The first half was quiet on both sides. Clarksville High dominated the time of possession, but could not find the back of the net, as West Creek goalie Alex Cruz-Lopez made save after save. Finally, in the 61st minute of the second half, Kalgren netted a beauty of a goal to give the Wildcats the lead.

“West Creek came out and played very well, so we had to make adjustments,” said Wildcats head coach Jeremy Sullivan. “Carter is a guy who may not always play a lot of minutes for us, but he was huge off the bench tonight, and he earned those goals.”
Kalgren netted an insurance goal in the 73rd minute to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead, and Clarksville High goalie Jacob Wiggins completed the shutout on the other end to earn the Wildcats a spot in the region 7-3A championship game. For West Creek, while their season comes to an end, it was another season to remember.
“Today we were just a little flat-footed,” said Coyotes head coach Craig Nakutis. “The kids had a great season. This year’s team faced a lot of adversity, and the kids are a great group that fought. We’re coming back with a boatload of talent, and we’re gonna be right here again next year.”
As for the Wildcats, they have round three with their cross-town rival, the Rossview Hawks, on Thursday night. This time with a region championship on the line. The Hawks got the best of the Wildcats in the previous two matchups, but Sullivan is ready for another go at them.
“The name of the game when it comes to this final is intensity,” said Sullivan. “You’ve got to make sure that you’re stepping up to that level and to that intensity. We have to stick with the plan and execute it to the best of our ability.”
