CLARKSVILLE, TN − Kayla Saelens, a senior at Clarksville High School, and Matea Brown, a freshman at MTSU, have been formally recognized by the City of Clarksville for their outstanding leadership and service to the community. On May 5, Kayla and Matea were presented with two prestigious national honors: the Military Order of the Purple Heart National Youth Leadership Award and the Military Order of the World Wars Award.

They were honored with these awards in recognition of achieving the highest Girl Scout honor—the Gold Award—and being two of only 12 recipients from the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee’s 2024–2025 class.

In an official statement, the City of Clarksville extended heartfelt congratulations to Kayla and Matea, recognizing their achievements as a symbol of hope and inspiration for the youth of the community. The citation praised their “spirit of leadership and service” and expressed full confidence in their future, affirming that their life’s work “will make this world a better place in which to live.”
