CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville High pitcher Nick James was named 2019 Class AAA Mr. Baseball in Tennessee. The left-handed hurler has committed to play college baseball at the University of North Carolina and is already garnering attention from Major League Baseball.

One of five Wildcats to make the All-District team, James helped lead the Wildcats to a 27-9 overall record during the 2019 season.

Since the 2015 inaugural year of the Mr. Baseball award, Clarksville High School has had three baseball players make the top three finalists, and two have gone on to win the award.

Donny Everett was named Class AAA Mr. Baseball in 2015. Clarksville High School Baseball Players have been nominated in 3 out of the 5 years since the award was created.

Clarksville High Head Coach Brian Hetland had a glowing review for his star pitcher after receiving the award, “Nick had a fabulous year and improved in all aspects as a baseball player. Nick is a great character kid who works extremely hard. He is the true definition of a student athlete.”

The coveted Mr. Baseball designation is awarded by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association (TBCA). Nick was joined at the ceremony by CHS Principal Bryan Feldman, Coach Brian Hetland, and Assistant Principal Shannon Cummings.
