CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Wildcats, Springfield Yellowjackets, Northeast Eagles and Rossview Hawks all traveled to Kirkwood High for the District 13-4A tournament semifinals. The No. 1-seeded Wildcats defeated Springfield 3-1, while three-seeded Rossview upset two-seeded Northeast 3-0.
The Clarksville Wildcats lost the first set of the match to Springfield 25-20, dropping their first set since Sept. 14. However, the Cats responded and won the next three sets to take the match and advance to the district championship.
Clarksville head coach Glen Fox said his team responded well to the early adversity. “We came out very sluggish,” said Fox. “Give a lot of credit to Springfield; they punched us in the mouth. Eventually, We got back to what we do best, which is serving and passing, back to the basics. We have the same goal; we want to win the district championship.”
Rossview vs. Northeast
In the second game, a fired up Rossview squad, seeking revenge for when Northeast defeated them on senior night, came out on fire and won the first set 25-11. Despite the fight from the Eagles, the Hawks swept the match and ended the Eagles’ season.
“This was one of our better years since I’ve been here,” said Northeast head coach Joyce Williams. “I hate that it ended this way, but Rossview wanted it more tonight. I’m very proud of the girls and these seniors, but we ran out of gas.”
As for Rossview, they have a rematch with Clarksville High on Thursday at 6 p.m. for the district championship. The Hawks will have a chance to end the Wildcats’ six-year streak of district championships.
“It’s always fun getting to play CHS,” said Rossview head coach Linnie Fernlund. “Most of them are friends, but they’re competitive on the court, and we’re excited for the opportunity.”
