CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville High pitchers Ryan Murphy and Bennett Mobley are the first pair to be named Clarksville Now Players of the Week. The two pitched back-to-back complete game shutouts against Springfield High.
The first of a two-game series against Springfield began on Tuesday, April 19. Murphy took the mound in Game 1, and opposing batters struggled to put together any form of offensive production.
The right-handed pitcher showcased his ability to make hitters miss, while pitching to contact. Game Changer detailed that Murphy recorded seven straight outs to end the game. The Wildcats offense behind him was as productive as ever. Clarksville went on to win the game 10-0. Murphy’s final state line included 5 innings pitched, 5 strikeouts, 1 hit, 0 earned runs allowed and a win.
Similar to his counterpart, Mobley held Springfield in check the following day. The right-handed pitcher was effective and aggressive on the mound throughout the contest.
According to Game Changer, Mobley threw 69% of his pitches for strikes. This included throwing a first pitch strike against 67% of the batters he faced. His ability to control the strike zone was the difference in the matchup. The Yellow Jackets remained in the game throughout the seven innings of play, but the Wildcats early run production led them to a 4-0 victory. Mobley ended his day with 7 innings pitched, 6 strikeouts, 4 hits, 0 earned runs allowed and a win.
2022 season overview
Murphy and Mobley have been pitching effectively all season. Whether they start the game or come in for relief, they remain two of the most effective arms in Clarksville’s pitching rotation.
When examining Murphy’s mound presence, he is primarily used as a starting pitcher. Out of his seven appearances, six have been games started. Murphy hasn’t allowed an earned run in 12 straight innings. On the season, he’s only allowed 10 total earned runs through 35 innings. He ranks near the top of every statistical category, which includes leading the team in total innings pitched, strikeouts, shutouts and compete games.

Mobley’s role in the pitching rotation has varied throughout the season. He has started three games and came in as a relief pitcher in five games.
