CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville High School senior golfer A.J. Forsythe hit three consecutive eagles (two strokes under par) on three straight holes – two par 4s, and a par 5 – at the Battle at the Hermitage in Old Hickory on Wednesday.

“I got the chills after the second one went in,” Forsythe told Clarksville Now. “The next hole was a short par 5, and I hit well enough for my third eagle in a row. Just a great experience on holes 6, 7, and 8. … The moment meant a lot to me, knowing it was my second year playing competitive golf, and it was the first tournament of my senior year with my boys.”

Hitting three consecutive eagles is a rare accomplishment. A PGA Tour pro hits a par-4 eagle once in every 2,000 attempts. Forsythe not only did that twice, but stacked a par-5 eagle on top of it. The odds of a professional doing that are 1 in 133 million, and for an amateur like Forsythe, essentially 0.

Clarksville High head boys golf coach Ken Busbee said he’s never seen it before, and he will probably never see it again.

“When I first saw the score, it was the first two of three eagles. I didn’t really believe it,” said Busbee. “So I had to go find his group and talk to them. When I got there, I told them they needed to fix his scores. And they told me he had three straight eagles.

“He has been playing great golf these last few weeks, but I never believed I could be part of something so spectacular. … I wouldn’t have said anything if it were practice, but because it was done in a tournament with players from other teams observing, it is truly remarkable.”
