CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Dickson County Cougars traveled to Clarksville High School on Tuesday for a region 7-3A semifinals elimination game. The Wildcats scored three goals in the first 12 minutes to take control of the match quickly and poured on more scoring for a convincing 7-0 win.

The victory sends CHS to the region championship game on Thursday, while also ending the Cougars’ 2025-26 season.

Three goals in first 12 minutes

With their season on the line, the Wildcats wanted to leave no doubt, and did just that, with Kinley Long netting two goals in the fifth and eighth minutes of the game, before Sarah Mann added another for a quick 3-0 lead in the 12th minute.

The scoring cooled down after that, but then Long got on the board again in the 33rd minute, and Constance Ludowese added one more goal in the 35th minute for the Wildcats. CHS went into the half with a 5-0 lead.

“It was huge to score a lot early,” Wildcats head coach Sara Kluttz told Clarksville Now. “We’ve worked hard in the last couple of weeks, and our attacking players our clicking and executing at a high level. That was exciting to do that right off the bat tonight.”

Mann started the second half off with her second goal of the contest, extending the lead to six. Then, Lily Vargas capped off the scoring for the night in the 55th minute with a shot from way outside the box. The Wildcats cruised to a 7-0 victory, advancing to the region title.

Now, Clarksville High will face Henry County on Thursday night. The Wildcats last won a region title in 2021, and while having made appearances in the last three, they went on to lose each game. This year, they look to change that stat as they host a sectional match on Saturday for the right to advance to the state tournament.

“We’re excited to be back in this position,” Kluttz said. “We’ve been here for a long time, and it’s a testament to the girls and the legacy they’re a part of. It’s definitely stunk to lose it the last few years. We not only want to win cause it’s a championship match and that’s special, but it totally changes the feel of Saturday if we get to host.”
