CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kenwood Knights traveled to Exit 11 for the Region 7-4 tournament quarterfinals against the Wildcats at Clarksville High School on Friday. While the Knights battled, Clarksville High pulled away late for a 54-37 win, advancing to the region semifinals, and ending Kenwood’s season.

The game was a dogfight early on, with CHS and Kenwood being tied at 9 after the first quarter. Shannon Bronson helped the Wildcats’ offense heat up in the second quarter with two three-pointers, and the Wildcats only allowed five points in the quarter for a 10-point lead at the half.

In the second half, the close contest became the Katelyn Fox show, as she stepped up big time in an elimination game. Fox scored 12 of her 20 points in the second half to lead all scorers and put this one away for the Wildcats.

“Kenwood came out early and did a lot of really good things,” said Wildcats head coach Ellie Claus. “After halftime, we didn’t make a lot of adjustments, we just did a better job of executing. Shannon stepped up big for us, and Katelyn made some big-time shots.”

The Knights scored 20 fourth-quarter points, including 12 from Bri Rice, but the lead was too big to overcome late, and the Knights’ season came to a close. This is the second straight season the Knights have lost in this round to Clarksville High.

As for CHS, they’re on to the region semifinals Monday, facing the same foe they did in that round last season, Dickson County. The Wildcats won by one in that matchup last year, and look to recreate that success.

“Most of them have been in this position before; they know what these games mean,” said Claus. “Your season can end any given night, so I think they learned that we need to come out with more intensity and have better starts moving forward.”
