CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Kirkwood High Cobras traveled to a packed Hilda J. Richardson Field for a region matchup with the Clarksville High Wildcats on Thursday, Oct. 10. The stage was set for an instant classic between the two teams, but CHS had other plans as they raced out a 39-0 halftime lead and held on in the second half to win 46-6.
The Wildcats offense kicked things off early, scoring on their first possession, which opened the floodgates. Senior running back James Dalrymple scored next for his first of three touchdowns he accounted for on the night, which included a touchdown pass.
Dalrymple said his team was excited for the chance to play a good Kirkwood High team and wanted to establish the tone early.
“This is the toughest team we’ve played in a few weeks,” Dalrymple told Clarksville Now. “Even on Monday, there was just a feeling that we needed to win this game and win big. I may have scored three touchdowns, but credit to my offensive line; without them, I’m nothing.”
The Cobras didn’t go quietly, however. While it was a running clock in the second half, they got on the board with an 80-yard pick-six from Christian Shogun. Clarksville scored once more before the final buzzer for a 46-6 victory.

Kirkwood head coach Chad Watson credited Clarksville High but knows there’s a lot of football ahead of this Cobra team. “They’ve got a really good football team,” said Watson. “They caused a lot of it, but we didn’t play to our standard. Right now is the time that our motto, ‘Cobras don’t quit,’ has to hold true. We got hit in the mouth tonight, but we have to dig in and keep fighting.”
As for the Wildcats, they sit at 8-0 on the season and have clinched a playoff spot. Now they head into a bye week, and head coach Isaac Shelby wants to get his guys as much rest as possible for a postseason run.
“We had to play physical; they’re a good team with six or seven Division I guys,” said Shelby. “It was a good overall team performance. We just have to get rest, get them off their feet, and hopefully make a run at the whole thing.”
