CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville High Lady Wildcats traveled to Northwest High School for a matchup with the Vikings on Tuesday night. The Vikings started well, but a 29-8 run in the first half put the Wildcats in control, and CHS cruised to a 57-34 win in the second half.
The victory marked the first win of the year for Clarksville High, but also the first win for head coach Ellie Treanton since taking over for Brian Rush.
Northwest came out defensively stout, not allowing Clarksville High to score for the first four minutes of the contest. However, turnover problems started to plague the Vikings.

The Wildcats took advantage of those turnovers, scoring 14 straight points in response, mostly scored on the fast break. Clarksville guard Shakiah Vance had 12 of the Wildcats’ 29 points at halftime, and they led by 16 at the half.
“Northwest came out playing really hard, but our kids responded well and made adjustments,” said Wildcats head coach Ellie Treanton. “Moving into more of a man defense helped with our intensity. I’ve told Shakiah that she just needs her to be herself, and she’s been great at that so far this year.”

Both teams’ scoring increased in the second half, including Northwest guard Ivy Downs draining five threes, with 19 total points on the night. However, they were never able to dig out of their early hole, and Clarksville High earned a win, 57-34. For Northwest, the Vikings are still searching for their first win, but head coach Ben Wallace is confident his squad will continue to improve.
“We turned it over too many times to be able to win that ball game,” said Wallace. “We came out well, and Ivy shot it really well tonight, but we just didn’t have it tonight. We can play with everybody on our schedule, but we can’t give away anything.”
For Clarksville, it’s the first win in the Treanton era, and one that they will celebrate for the old Wildcat point guard. The Wildcats head into the Thanksgiving break with a 1-2 record and will look to improve further when they return.
“It was super exciting to get our first win as a team,” said Treanton. “We lost a really tough game and a really good player yesterday to injury, so to come back and respond like that, that was important.”
