CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview High baseball team traveled to Clarksville High School for the region 7- 4A championship game against the Wildcats. A high-scoring affair saw the Wildcats pull away to claim their second consecutive region championship by a score of 13-3, which also earns them a home sub-state playoff series.

Early on, the Hawks got the scoring started with third baseman CJ Lattimore stealing two bases before scoring on a passed ball in the top of the second inning. However, in the next half inning, the Wildcats quickly responded with Carer Hedrick, Keaton Anderson, and Korbin Reynolds all recording RBIs. This began a stretch of two innings where the Wildcats scored a total of nine runs.

“We had a great offensive day,” said Clarksville High head coach Brian Hetland. “Everyone had some really big hits and at-bats. It was nice to see a lot of adjustments from our guys. Just one after another they all contributed, and the score reflected that against a really good baseball team.”

The Wildcats continued to pile on, and while the offense was humming, right-handed pitcher Cooper Nebben was also dealing on the mound. In his relief appearance, Nebben allowed zero runs and struck out three batters in his three innings pitched.

Then, a few outs later, Hedrick hit safely for an RBI single to walk the Hawks off for the second time in a week, and for the Wildcats to claim the region championship.

The Hawks still have life though, as they will play a win-or-go-home matchup against the winner of the Henry County and Dickson County loser’s bracket game for the right to travel to Collierville High School for a sub-state series.

“They outplayed us and credit to them,” said Rossview High head coach Parker Holman. “We walked too many people, and didn’t take advantage of the counts we were ahead in. We have to be tough, cause if we don’t, we go home.”

As for Clarksville High, they await the winner of Houston and Arlington for a three-game series next week, and with a win, they would advance to their third straight state tournament, and the fourth in the last five years. For Hetland, his squad will enjoy this one, but it’s right back to work next week.

“We’re really ecstatic, we wanted to have this thing at our place,” said Hetland. “It’s a really good feeling to win it for the second straight year. The program is in great standing right now, but it doesn’t mean anything in sub-state. We’re going to have a great opponent, and we have to go out and match them. We just have to play our game.”
