CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville High volleyball team met up with the Kirkwood High Cobras for the district 13-4A championship game on Wednesday night. The Cobras made history in their first-ever championship game appearance, but the Wildcats stole the show, winning three sets to none to win their eighth consecutive district title.
The first set was back and forth, as both teams were fired up for a shot at the district championship. CHS was able to edge out a 25-20 set win to take the first. Clarksville High then dominated set two, winning 25-11, and carried that momentum all the way to the third set, winning 25-15.

“They always say it’s easy to repeat, but it’s not,” said Clarksville High head coach Glen Fox. “It’s kind of surreal. I’m so proud of this team, because every day we get their best effort no matter what, and I’m glad they’ve got another accomplishment under their belt. We don’t take it lightly, because you can’t do other things without winning this first.”
For Kirkwood, it’s not how they wanted to celebrate their first championship game in program history, but they’ve got a shot to keep advancing, as they will travel to the winner of the district 14-4A championship game between Dickson County and Northwest for a regional semifinal and elimination game.
“We’ve overcome so much this season, so just to be here, that’s something,” said Kirkwood head coach Shayla Smith. “Our effort could have been a little better in the last two sets, and we picked it up a little too late. This loss won’t define the rest of our season, because we’ve got a shot to keep playing and keep winning. We’re going to fix our errors tonight and get ready to go.”

To put into perspective just how dominant this Clarksville High volleyball team has been, the last time they didn’t win the district, the current senior class was in the fourth grade. While Fox and his team will celebrate this one, they turn their attention towards bigger goals now, such as a region title, and of course, the ever-elusive spot in Murfreesboro.
“We’ve got our first goal of three,” said Fox. “We want to do something magical this year with this team, and we’ve got the personnel to do it, we just have to execute.
