CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) –The Clarksville High Wildcats hosted the Rossview Hawks for a rivalry showdown in front of a sold-out William Workman Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 21. It was close early on, however, the Wildcat’s effort and grit, and 17 points from Sheldon Huber, powered them past the Hawks for a 61-46 victory.
At the beginning of the game each team struggled to find a rhythm on offense, but CHS was eventually able to build a steady lead and used the energy of a packed house to their advantage. Clarksville High head coach Ted Young loved to see some of the things his team has been working on come to fruition.
“I think we finally carried what we’ve been doing in practice into the game,” Young told Clarksville Now. “They’ve been working hard, but we haven’t seen magnificent results. We’ve played really well for three quarters in a lot of games, but tonight they were able to play a complete game.”
As for Rossview, they mounted a rally but weren’t able to get enough going on the offensive end of the floor and fell by a score of 61-46. Hawks head coach Johnny Jackson used a lot of players in his rotation, and he stated he’s still trying to find his best five to put on the floor.
“They wanted it more than us,” Jackson said. “There’s a way that we do things at Rossview, and we’re going to find five guys who are going to play hard. It’s not rocket science; we have to get stops and score more consistently.”
As for Clarksville High, it’s a huge win in the district and in the rivalry, and one that may be able to change the momentum of their season.
“Winning becomes a habit,” said Young. “We didn’t have losing habits, but we just kept falling short. You’re starting to see these guys come into their own, find their roles, and share the ball really well.”
