Clarksville, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville High Wildcats hosted game two of a three game sub-state series against the Houston Mustangs on Thursday. Following their loss in game one, CHS found some offensive production early and never relented to win 13-4, which forces a winner-takes-all game three, set for Friday at 4: 30 p.m.

Clarksville High first baseman Carter Hedrick and right fielder Keaton Anderson got the scoring started in the top of the second inning for the Wildcats as they both collected RBIs. The Wildcats then added two more runs in the third inning, and three more runs in the fourth to jump out to large lead, which ultimately was too much to overcome. In route to their win over the Mustangs, CHS third baseman Cade Abernathy led the way for the Wildcats, with 4 RBIs on two hits, including a double.

On the mound, Clarksville’s Cooper Nebben got the starting nod and held the high-powered Mustangs offense to only three runs in five innings, while striking out six. Kirk Weatherford and Mason Stuard, both got it done in relief, allowing only two combined hits in their two innings pitched, securing the huge win to force game three of the series. Now, no matter the outcome of tomorrow’s game, someone’s going to Murfreesboro, and someone’s going home.

“It was a great bounce back from our guys,” said Clarksville High head coach Brian Hetland. “We came back tonight, and we were the aggressors. It’s a very good baseball team that we’re playing, and we have to be able to go through adversity and fight. The boys did that tonight. The bottom line is we have to go out there and play our game (tomorrow). There’s a lot of stuff that goes on in this series, and we have to just handle it. We have to go at them, lay it all on the line and see what we can come up with. Play smart and play under control.”
