CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville High Athletics announced on Tuesday, May 27, the hiring of Ellie Treanton as their new head girls’ basketball coach. The news comes after longtime head coach Brian Rush stepped down from the position after 20 years at the helm.
“We are excited to welcome her leadership and look forward to the future of Lady Wildcats basketball under her direction,” Clarksville High Athletic Director Shannon Cummings told Clarksville Now. “We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Coach Rush for his 20 years of dedicated service as head coach of the girls’ basketball program. While he has stepped down from that role, we are grateful that he will continue to lead our Lady Wildcats softball program.”
“I am proud of what both our basketball and softball teams have accomplished during the last 20 years, and I will continue in my role as Head Softball Coach as our softball program strives for even greater success over the next several years,” said Rush.

“I have been so appreciative of the opportunity to be the Head Coach of 2 sports here and have been so thankful for the support of the admin and staff here that helped me make an impact in both. Head Coaching one sport is a year-round, 24/7 venture. Even when we are not in season, there is always something to do, and if there is nothing to do, I’m always thinking of what is next to do. Trying to do that in two sports is twice as hard. I truly believe the Girls Basketball Program will be in good hands, and I am excited to lead and grow our softball team to great things over the coming years.”
In Rush’s 20 years as head basketball coach, he compiled 422 wins, nine district titles, five region championships, and six state tournament appearances. Now, he will hand it over to Treanton, who spent the 24-25 season as an assistant to Rush and the Wildcats, and had previously coached at Kirkwood High the year before. Treanton is an alumnus of Clarksville High School who played under Rush, and played college basketball at Sewannee Universtiy.
Clarksville High girls’ basketball is coming off a 2024-25 campaign where they compiled a record of 26-2 before having their season conclude in a one-point sectional loss. Over the last four years, the Wildcats have also compiled four district championships, three region titles, and two state tournament appearances.
