Clarksville, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) –The Rossview High baseball team hosted the Clarksville High Wildcats for a rivalry matchup between two of the top five-ranked teams in the state of Tennessee. It was a back-and-forth battle up to the fifth inning, but before a winner could be decided, the game was suspended due to lightning in the area. The game will resume on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Rossview High School.

Clarksville High wasted no time building a 6-0 lead, with left-handed pitcher Braden Taylor dealing on the mound. While the Hawks seemed down, in the bottom of the third inning they loaded the bases, and center fielder Ashton Kemp belted a ball over the center field wall for a grand slam. One swing of the bat instantly gave Rossview life.

A few innings later, in the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks scratched three more runs across the plate to tie the game. With a 1-2 count, two outs, and the bases loaded, right fielder Jordan Akins awaited the pitch that never came, as the game was suspended and eventually postponed due to the weather.

“That pretty much sums up this rivalry; anything that can happen will happen,” said Rossview High head coach Parker Holman. “I thought it was pretty neat for both schools to work together and pull the tarp. We tried to salvage it, but the weather got the best of us.”

Clarksville High and Rossview are set to play game two on schedule Tuesday afternoon at 6:30 p.m. at Clarksville High, while last night’s contest will be resumed the next day at Rossview High School. A unique situation for an already wild rivalry matchup.
