CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) This year celebrates the 30th anniversary of Great Strides – the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest national fundraising event.

Walks across the country support the Foundation’s mission to raise awareness and to cure cystic fibrosis. On May 5, 2018, family, friends, students, colleagues, businesses, and community leaders will participate in the Clarksville Great Strides at Liberty Park.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes debilitating lung infections, progressive lung destruction and premature death. An estimated 30,000 Americans – and 70,000 people worldwide – have cystic fibrosis. More than 10 million Americans are unknowing, symptomless carriers of a defective CF gene.

The CF Foundation is leading the way in innovative research and drug development, promoting high-quality, individualized care, and helping people with CF live better today. Nearly every CF drug was made possible by the Foundation and because of funds raised from Great Strides, people with CF are living longer, healthier lives and pursuing their dreams.

Governor Bill Haslam has recognized the work of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the progress made over the past thirty years by proclaiming May 2018 as Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month.
