CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Following the news that City Mayor Joe Pitts won’t be seeking reelection, Mark Riggins, the general manager of Clarksville Gas and Water, has announced his plans to run for city mayor in 2026.
“I am excited to move forward with what I believe is the next chapter the Lord has laid out for the path of my life,” Riggins told Clarksville Now. Riggins has 29 years of experience working within city government and became Clarksville Gas & Water general manager in 2019.

While he has a long history of working for the City of Clarksville, Riggins also has legislative experience from his time serving on the Montgomery County Commission, which he served on from 2010 to 2016.
“I am humbled by and appreciate the support and encouragement I have already received from our community family and their confidence in my capabilities to serve as our next city mayor.”
The race will be on the ballot in November 2026.
