CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.  (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A family of five has been displaced in Clarksville after a house fire Sunday morning.

While preparing Easter dinner, the family said they heard a noise from downstairs. Upon investigation, they saw smoke coming from the basement. The homeowner tried unsuccessfully to use a fire extinguisher to battle the fire.

Clarksville Fire Rescue were dispatched to the family’s 1200 Beverly Hills Dr. address at 11:14am Sunday morning. Fire crews from Station 1 and Station 4 arrived on scene four minutes after the 911 call to battle the blaze.

When they arrived the crews found fireworks, which had been stored in the basement, were exploding. The fire was quickly brought under control.

Due to the extensive damage to their home, the family of five has been displaced. Tennessee River Chapter of the American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the family.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
