CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Throughout the month of December, Clarksville Fire Rescue will offer free home screenings for city residents.
These fire safety screenings will include a check of all safety equipment like smoke detectors and other alarms to make sure families have an escape plan in the event of a fire, as well as a general inspection for fire hazards.
“We want to raise the public’s awareness of the fire safety considerations in their homes,” said Clarksville Fire Marshal Ray Williams.
Statistics show many fire-related deaths occur between December and February. Most fatalities involve adults over 65 and children five years old and younger.
Home heating equipment including wall heaters, space heaters, wood stoves, and fireplaces are the cause of many fires during the winter months.
Clarksville residents can schedule an inspection time by calling the Fire Prevention Office at 931-645-7462. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“We can’t guarantee a fire won’t occur in a home but we can help homeowners make sure they are taking precautions. Our goal is to prevent fires and anything we can do in that regard, we will try to do,” Williams said.
