CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Fire Rescue hosted its annual 9/11 Ceremony on Thursday at the Fire Rescue Headquarters on Franklin Street. The event honored the lives lost during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, as well as local firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
The program included a joint honor guard of local first responders and military personnel, the ringing of a ceremonial bell, a moment of silence, and the playing of taps by Sgt. Angela Christian of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts spoke at the ceremony, reflecting on the significance of the day. “That event 24 years ago reminds us of how precious our freedom is and how hard peace is won,” Pitts said. He also honored three Clarksville firefighters – Claude Walker, Capt. George Wilson and Engineer Ray Harrison – who lost their lives in the line of duty.
A memorial wreath was presented at the ceremony to recognize the first responders, government officials, civilians and military personnel who lost their lives on 9/11. Firefighter Mark Williams led the Firefighter’s Prayer. The ceremony closed with a prayer from City of Clarksville Chief of Staff James Halford, who asked for continued protection over first responders and military personnel.
Following the ceremony, Clarksville Fire Rescue personnel participated in the Memorial Stair Climb, symbolizing the 110 stories climbed by first responders at the World Trade Center.
