CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville couple has been sentenced following the settlement of a child abuse and neglect case.

According to Officer Natalie Hall with the Clarksville Police Department (CPD), the case originated on April 22, 2013 when the Department of Children Services (DCS) informed police two children were being abused at a home on King Rd.

A 4-year-old male child had a broken collar bone and the 1-year-old male child had a black eye. The injuries were said to have been caused by the mother’s live-in boyfriend, Darryl Mayo.

The mother, Krystie Chancey, provided medical documents during an interview that showed one of her children had been taken to Gateway Medical Center for a broken collar bone March 26, 2013. However, Chancey did not tell medical professionals the truth about how the injury was obtained, and failed to report the incident to police or DCS at the time.

Sometime after March 27, 2013 the 1-year-old child was given a black eye by Mayo.

Mayo admitted to both cases of abuse. He said the 4-year-old was injured while he was giving him a spanking, and the younger child was injured when he “back-handed” him.

Mayo also admitted that he and Chancey falsified their stories to avoid prosecution. They initially said the 4-year-old was injured on the playground, and the 1-year-old had been assaulted by siblings, all of which are under the age of four years.

Darryl Mayo was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison as a Range 1 offender at 45% (out of range) sentence.

Krystie Chancey received a 10-year community corrections sentence.
