CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW.COM) Clarksville officials and residents are responding to recent shootings involving police with prayer and demonstrations.
Montgomery County Commissioner Tommy Vallejos announced a prayer vigil at noon Friday at the Clarksville Police Department, inviting his Facebook followers to “join local clergy in a time of much needed prayer and unity.”
The call for prayer follows a deadly night in Dallas, Texas where five police officers on duty during a Black Lives Matter protest were shot dead by snipers.
Before the shootings in Dallas, a group of Clarksville organizers announced a demonstration at the Montgomery County Courthouse for 2:30 p.m. Friday in response to fatal police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.
Organizers of the event said the protest will be silent and all-inclusive. Demonstrators are encouraged to bring signs, but to be mindful of what they write.
