CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Civitan Club hosted their Annual Public Safety Awards Day Wednesday, March 10, honoring members of law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical services and emergency management personnel.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy, Lt. Mark Wojnarek, was recognized by Clarksville Civitans for his 20 years of service to Montgomery County. Wojnarek began his career in law enforcement in 1997 with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

In 1998 he moved to the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in 2001 as a patrol deputy. In 2002 he was promoted to investigator, to Sergeant in 2004, and to Lieutenant in 2019.

The Clarksville Fire Rescue Outstanding Employee of 2020, Engineer Neal Cherry was honored by Clarksville Civitans on Wednesday.  Cherry is an 18-year veteran of Clarksville Fire Rescue and received employee of the year because of his dedication and commitment to his service.

Recently Cherry devoted countless hours of his own time assisting with the layout and rewriting of Clarksville Fire Rescue’s policy and procedure manual. Cherry is also known to show up at an emergency scene and work tirelessly until the job is done, even when he is off duty.

 

Montgomery County Emergency Medical Service Paramedic Bryan Fuller was also recognized by the Clarksville Civitan Club.  Fuller began his career at Montgomery County EMS in 2017 and in a letter to nominate Fuller, Shift Captain Brian McNeeley said he was extremely glad to have him as part of the team.

McNeeley added that Fuller has displayed an extremely strong work ethic and positive attitude which is not only noticed by his peers and superiors, but most importantly by the patients he cares for.

Clarksville Police Officer Randy Cox was recognized Wednesday by Clarksville Civitans and was presented his plaque by Clarksville Police Chief David Crockarell. Cox joined the police department in 2019 after working in the medical field as a Registered Nurse, and decided to bring his knowledge of nursing to the law enforcement profession.

Shortly after joining the police department in 2019 Officer Cox used his medical and law enforcement training to save the life of a victim and was presented with a Lifesaver Award from the police department. Cox received another Lifesaver Award in 2020 after responding to another victim who was found unresponsive.

The 2021 Firefighter of the Year for the Montgomery County Fire Service, Firefighter Richard Jones who joined the Cunningham Fire District in 2017 was unable to attend the Civitan meeting. Jones retired from the U.S. Army this year after 20 years of service for the nation. Jones’ plaque was accepted by Montgomery County Fire Chief Ed Baggett.

In a letter to Civitan, Baggett said Jones has been an exceptional Firefighter since the day he began with the fire service and demonstrates high professionalism and gives respect to every individual he meets.
