CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville City Saver presented a check for $200,000 to the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation Saturday, March 8.

During the four-week campaign, elementary and middle school students in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) sold the coupon books to raise funds for literacy programs, teacher grants, and much more.

The $20 book contains thousands of saving options for businesses all over the area. For every book sold, $10 goes directly to the individual school and $2 goes to the Education Foundation.

This is the fourth year City Saver has partnered with the Education Foundation, and City Saver CEO Tom Beach said the schools raised almost $25,000 more than last year.

“It’s really neat to see a community like this coming together for one cause, which ultimately will help the kids with new technology and equipment,” Beach said. “This is a significant amount of money that these schools will be able to put to use.”

Beach said the book is also beneficial for local businesses. “This is a great way for a lot of the restaurants and merchants that are a part of our book to get customers through the door.”

Candy Johnson, Executive Director of the Education Foundation, said students were given special incentives, such as prizes, parties, and even iPads. “When the students know the types of things the school is going to do with the proceeds, it helps them become more excited,” she said.

Students and parents worked hard during the campaign, despite setbacks from snow days.

“This is one of the best fundraisers we have,” Johnson said. “It’s a great thing for our community, because not only does it raise money for our schools, but it gives families great discounts and offers. We’re just grateful to the teachers, parents, and everyone who supported this. $20 goes a long way to support the programs within the schools.”

A mega party was held during the presentation for students and parents to celebrate the success of the campaign. Children enjoyed bounce houses, games, food, and music.
