CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Christian Centurions hosted the South Haven Patriots for a district matchup on Monday night. The Centurions swept the Patriots 3-0 to claim the No. 1 seed in North District 2 for the district tournament next week.

The Centurions got going early and looked strong out of the gate. Momentum was huge for the Centurions, with Avah Sams starting the game with great serves for an 8-0 run, and Clarksville Christian won the first set 25-12.  The Centurions had two separate 8-0 runs in the second set, highlighted by some powerful kills from Marley Spires, and won the second set by the same score, 25-12.

“It starts with them knowing what their role is and buying into it,” said Centurions head coach Martha Sheffield. “Having control of the serve is huge, and we were hitting our spots tonight. They’ve finally bought into everyone doing their part, and when they all know that and support each other, it’s beautiful volleyball.”

The third set was more of the same, with the Centurions going on more runs and pulling away. The sister duo of Kinsie and Khloe Blount was on fire late, with Kinsie setting it up and Khloe throwing it down on a few straight rallies.

Clarksville Christian won the final set 25-11, clinching the top spot in their district for the first time in program history.

For Sheffield, it’s an accomplishment she’ll celebrate, but she knows nothing is given in the postseason. “It’s a big deal to our program, and I’m very proud of them,” she said. “No game is going to be given to us now, and we have to focus on our side of the net, cause when everything is clicking, we’re special. There’s work to be done, because we want to bring home the gold ball at the end of the day.”
