CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Former Clarksville High and Austin Peay basketball star Trenton Hassell has agreed to become the new girl’s basketball head coach at Clarksville Christian School.
“We are extremely proud to have Coach Hassell on board,” stated Clarksville Christian School athletic director Cole Harper. “It’s great to bring in someone from the area whose love for our community shows through his involvement in it. His experience and knowledge of the game will take our basketball program to new heights. We are very excited to begin that process.”
After playing three seasons at Austin Peay State University, Hassell left Clarksville and was later selected by the Chicago Bulls with the first pick of the second round in the 2001 NBA Draft.
Hassell’s NBA career spanned nine seasons and included stops with the previously mentioned Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey Nets.
Since returning to his hometown of Clarksville, Hassell has made a significant impact both on and off the court. He is prominently known for hosting basketball camps and activities for the Clarksville Sol AAU program, as well as actively working to improve the Clarksville community in many facets.
Hassell noted that he is “excited to be at CCS to take over the team and continue the progress that Coach King (Margaree) began”, adding that his goal is to keep “making the program better.”
