CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) There’s a growing group of people in Clarksville-Montgomery County who are dedicated to helping others, who are known as Clarksville Chive and they are actually part of a nationwide organization.

Recently, Rachel Moeller and Matthew Petro sat down with me and talked about Clarksville Chive. Moeller said Chive began as a website started by two brothers who named the site after where they both lived, Chicago and Venice Beach and came up with Chive.

The site was first just for entertainment and then Chive Charities was developed to reach out to people in need. The Chive Website says their goal is to make the world 10% better by improving the quality of life for those in need and bettering the community.

Moeller added that the website has grown into groups in many cities across the U.S. and also internationally with people wanting to do more for their community. A Chive chapter was formed in Nashville and Clarksville members would go down and help out with community events.

After a while it was decided that instead of making the trip to Nashville they would form a Clarksville Chive chapter which Moeller said began with about 12 people two years ago and has now grown to over 5,000 members.

Petro talked about what Clarksville Chive hopes to accomplish. “We do a lot of monetary drives for things and we send a lot of money to a lot of people. The big cry out was for more involvement with helping the community, like putting in man hours, getting out there and getting dirty,” said Petro.

He added that there are four teams that handle the four sections of charity that were wanted the most. There’s Team Rescue, Team Resupply, Team Restore and Team Rogue. “Each team has a different mission and each team goes out and makes it happen, it’s amazing” said Petro.

They have shown support for the Clarksville Police Department, Clarksville Fire Rescue, Clarksville Parks & Recreation and the Children’s Tumor Foundation just to name a few. Both Moeller and Petro said that along with events and activities, folks with Clarksville Chive also do a lot of what they called, “Random Acts of Kindness”.
