CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the guilty plea of Amer Ibrahim, 46, to three counts of sales tax evasion and one count of theft over $2,500.
Ibrahim is the owner of ASR Tobacco and Beer located at 231 10th Street in Clarksville.
According to the Dept. of Revenue, Judge William Goodman accepted Ibrahim’s guilty plea on Thursday and sentenced him to three years of probation. Ibrahim was fined $3,000 and has been ordered to pay $5,164.21 in restitution to the Tennessee Department of Revenue.
“Most businesses in Tennessee remit the tax dollars they collect from customers,” said Revenue Commissioner David Gerregano. “This guilty plea should serve as a warning to those that believe they can get away with tax fraud. Our Department remains committed to prosecuting tax evaders to ensure a level playing for all businesses.”
The Department pursued this criminal case in cooperation with District Attorney General John Carney and his staff.
