CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Clarksville business owner was indicted Monday by a federal grand jury on four counts of tax fraud after nearly a decade of allegedly dodging federal income taxes and filing false returns.

David Haley, 64, the owner and operator of Haley & Associates Mechanical Contractors in Clarksville, faces four counts of filing false tax returns for tax years 2014 through 2017, according to a news release from David Boling, public information officer for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee.

The charges were announced Tuesday by Acting U.S. Attorney Mary Jane Stewart.

The indictment alleges that even though Haley’s business compensation was well in excess of $1 million for each of the tax years, he falsely reported that he received zero business income, the news release said.

The indictment also alleges that except for a small payment in 2012, neither Haley nor his business paid federal income taxes for 2008 through 2017, the news release continued.

If convicted on the charges, Haley potentially faces up to three years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine on each count of tax fraud.

This case was investigated by the IRS Criminal Investigation division, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn W. Booth will be prosecuting the case.
