CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A man wanted for burglary and other felony charges in now in custody after jumping in the river in an attempt to flee from police.

Police responded to a shots fired call Friday around 1 a.m. in the Providence Blvd. area and stopped a vehicle at the Waffle House on Riverside Drive because it has been spotted leaving that area.

Officers recognized the passenger as Damien Gray, who had several active felony warrants on file. As they approached the vehicle, Gray got out, ran behind Waffle House, and jumped into the river in an attempt to get away.

Officers were able to convince him to get out of the water and took him into custody. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and charged with seven counts of burglary, six counts of property theft, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, and vandalism. His bond was set at $140,000.

The warrants stemmed from over a dozen storage unit break-ins from Sinclair Drive and Hermitage Road, a motorcycle theft from one of the units, and a truck stolen from another business location with about $15,000 worth of items inside.
