CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Five weeks of the 2024-25 high school football season have gone by, as two Clarksville-Montgomery County teams remain undefeated. Meanwhile, other teams from across the area are fighting for playoff seeding.
Here are four storylines to watch in week 6.
The Fight for Number One
Rossview High and Clarksville High are the two undefeated teams in the area. However, they share first place in region 7-6A with Dickson County, who is 2-0 against conference opponents but 3-2 overall. Meanwhile, Kirkwood High sits in fourth place in the region with a record of 2-1 but 4-1 overall.
Now, in addition to fighting for the chance to clinch a spot in the 2024-25 postseason, teams will be fighting for the number one overall seed, which would cement home field advantage at least through the first two weeks of the postseason.
Necessary Struggle
There’s no doubt the first half of the season hasn’t gone as planned for Montgomery Central, as they’ve started the year out 0-5 for the second consecutive season.
However, the Indians have competed against quality opponents who have a combined record of 19-6 up to this point in the 2024-25 season. Now, with a matchup against Whites Creek set for Friday, Sept. 27, they’ll look to win their first game in over two years and avenge last year’s loss to the Cobras.
Region gauntlet
The Clarksville Academy Cougars sit at 1-4 at the halfway point of the season. However, they have only played one region game thus far.
With an upcoming homecoming game against Collinwood this week, the Cougars will finish the year with four consecutive region game, which will determine where they fall in playoff standings. Clarksville Academy will look to make a late run in the year to make a push for the postseason.
Climbing the ladder
If the season were to end today, West Creek, Northeast High, Kenwood High and Northwest High all sit outside of the current playoff picture for region 7-6A. Will at least one of these teams climb the ladder to earn a playoff berth?
