CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Academy head football coach Steadman Bell has resigned from his position after three seasons at the helm. Bell has accepted a position on the football staff at Carson-Newman University, returning to the collegiate ranks for the first time in nine years.
“While this was a very difficult decision made within a short window, I felt it was the best step for the future goals I have set for myself,” Bell said in a statement to Clarksville Now. “Anyone familiar with the college coaching world knows how extremely difficult it is to break into. The past three seasons at Clarksville Academy, I was fortunate to build a strong foundation of relationships throughout the college football world.

“During my time at CA, I also had the opportunity to work closely with the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce and several outstanding corporate partners, all of whom played a crucial role in supporting both the academic and athletic growth of the school. Those relationships and experiences were invaluable and greatly appreciated.”
During his three-year tenure, the Cougars compiled a 7-22 record; however, this past season marked their best record under Bell, picking up local wins over Montgomery Central and Fort Campbell.

“I would like to sincerely thank Clarksville Academy as a whole for the opportunity to serve, and most importantly, Mrs. (Jennifer) Hinote, Head of School, and Matt Hoppe or believing in me and giving me the opportunity back in the spring of 2023,” Bell said. “I am grateful for the trust and support shown to me, and I wish nothing but continued success for the entire Clarksville Academy community.”
Bell will be joining the staff at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. The Eagles went 7-3 last year, 6-3 in the South Athletic Conference, and a perfect 5-0 at home.
“I am incredibly thankful to Carson-Newman University for the opportunity to coach, mentor and guide a position group at the collegiate level as we begin this new journey, pursue championships and embrace a period of positive change. I look forward to being in the area and continuing to help grow the Carson-Newman football family.”
Clarksville Academy will now search for its next head coach.
