Clarksville, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Academy softball team hosted the Nashville Christian Eagles at the Clarksville Academy Sports Complex for a district matchup on Thursday. While the Cougars pulled out in front early, Nashville Christian scored 11 unanswered runs to a win the game by a score of 12-2 in six innings of action.
Clarksville Academy started off the game off hot, with pitcher Kingsley Bell only allowing one run as she worked herself out of a jam early in the game. The Cougars offense provided some run support in the bottom of the first as well, with catcher Lyla Clemmons and third baseman Sydney Irish both collecting RBI singles, which allowed CA to pull ahead with a 2-1 lead.
“Momentum is huge for us,” Clarksville Academy head coach Mike Trent told Clarksville Now. “These girls are battling, we barely have enough girls to play, but they’ve stuck it out. They’ve continued to work hard, and we’re proud of them for that.”
Following the first, Nashville Christian began to pour it on with a six-run second inning. From that point forward, the Eagles led for the rest of the way and won the game 12-2 across six innings.
Despite the result of the contest, with only a couple of regular season games left, Trent remains optimistic about his team heading into the postseason.
“Our record is 0-0 when we get to the postseason,” he said. “We have to start over and try to win every inning we can. At the end of the day, if it’s not good enough, we’ll know we left it all out there. We’re not going to give up, they’re definitely not going to give up, and we’re going to be alright.”
