“Cam has meant a lot to our team,” said Clarksville Academy head coach Matt Hoppe. “He’s our senior leader, he’s a calming presence. It’s nice having two really good guards in Cam and Trae that can handle the ball, set us up offensively and defensively and make shots when we need a bucket. Cam has been tremendous this year.”

Hoppe said Phillips is a special player because his basketball IQ.

“He knows the spots he’s supposed to be in. He knows exactly what the ins and outs of our defense are. Offensively he knows all our sets and actions – he is key in helping get a young team where they’re supposed to be on the floor,” Hoppe said.

Clarksville Academy (5-0) will face Ezell-Harding Christian (7-1) next on Friday, Dec. 8.

When speaking on the teams undefeated record, Hoppe had this to say: “It’s nice but the most important game is the next one – those first five games can’t win us any of the games ahead…We’ve been fortunate to beat some really good teams early on.

“We have to keep learning and growing together so we can keep improving. … Cam has been instrumental in this process of teaching our younger guys what it takes to compete at a very high level.”
