CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Academy Cougars ended last season in Nashville after the first round of the playoffs. That was then, and this is now. On Monday, they officially opened the season and spring practice at Austin Peay’s Fortera Stadium.
The 2016 Cougars will be ready to put in hours upon hours of practice and preparation, and give their Friday night fans something to be proud of, and once again, they will be coached by Todd Hood. Entering his sixth season as head coach of the Cougars, along with five playoff appearances, Hood is excited about where the team seems to be headed.
“I am very pleased with this group of young men and the time and effort they put into the off season. We have a young group with that are mature and focused on doing things the right way and that is something we can build on,” Hood said. “We have a lot of work to do, but I feel like this team heading into the 2016 season will be ready for battle.”
Spring practice for a lot of teams can help set the tone for summer workouts, camps, and scrimmages.
“Spring time is purely teaching technique and imputing our system into place for some new players and fine tuning and expanding the system for the returners,” Hood said. “It’s also a great time to try new things and then we can evaluate what we want to keep and work on or discard.”
Rest assured, Hood along with his tenured coaching staff will have his team ready come August. The Cougars open up their 2016 regular season at home August 19 against the Harpeth Indians at the Clarksville Academy Sports Complex on Highway 48/13.
