CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Academy senior guard Malaya Woullard has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week after dropping 27 points and 8 rebounds in a loss against the Rossview High Lady Hawks on Nov. 21.
Going into the game, Clarksville Academy had a record of 1-0 after defeating Northwest High a week earlier. As they prepared to travel to Rossview High, the Cougars looked to build off their momentum to earn their second win of the season. However, Rossview High had other plans.
While the game was close throughout the majority of the matchup, Rossview High was able to pull away in the fourth quarter to secure a 59-46 victory. However, the Lady Hawks did not have an answer for Woullard throughout the night.
The senior guard for Clarksville Academy scored more than 55% of her team’s total points scored, which included draining 6 three-pointers in the game. In addition to her 27 points and 8 rebounds, Woullard also had four steals on defense.
Coaches corner
“We really have a good relationship,” said Clarksville Academy girls’ basketball coach Charles Clark. “Our relationship has grown over the last few months because of the trust we have for each other, but she has done well with stepping out of her comfort zone and being a good team leader.
“Malaya’s high IQ has helped our team in so many areas this year. Then, I think her ability to score the basketball at multiple levels and facilitate the offense is what makes her such a special player on the court.”
