CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Academy Cougars traveled to Exit 8 for a matchup with the Kirkwood Cobras ladies basketball team. A defensive fight between two schematically sound teams saw the Academy take an early lead, and while the Cobras had stretches of great play, the Cougars never trailed, winning 47-32.
Early on, the Clarksville Academy defense gave Kirkwood fits, playing a very aggressive press style, so Kirkwood responded by playing the same thing right back, and a defensive battle ensued.
Kirkwood head coach Micah Rochester said his players are starting to execute the concepts he’s laid in place, but there’s room to improve.
“I think we’re finally starting to understand concepts on both ends of the floor,” said Rochester. “I’m a new coach with a new system, so we’re still trying to learn exactly how we want to play on the offensive end, and we played very well on the defensive end. We just need to get more rebounds, but we’re a young team who’s going to continue to improve, and can compete with everyone on our schedule.”

The Cougars were ahead wire to wire for a big in-city win, led by 12 points from Camille Thomas.
For them, this win was fueled by a great crowd and an in-city rivalry.
“Any time you’re playing in the city, it means more,” said Clark. “We had a great crowd, and any time you get a win it’s huge when you get to lace them up and play. I’m proud of the girls for coming into a tough environment and taking care of business.”
