CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Academy Lady Cougars hosted the Northeast Eagles on Proctor Court at Clarksville Academy on Thursday night. Clarksville Academy senior Anna Hellums made the most of her senior night, as she scored 23 points and powered the Cougars to a 61-40 win.

Clarksville Academy got after it right from the jump as their defense flew around and created opportunities in transition. They also dominated the boards, as well as forced a number of turnovers. They quickly built a lead and led 30-14 at the half.

Northeast head coach Tracie Mason-Blair said that while the result may not have been there, her girls played hard, including a 25-point effort from Qimara Summers.

“That’s probably the hardest we’ve played all year; we battled for 32 minutes,” Mason-Blair said. “At the end of the day though, you’ve got to put the ball in the hole. Overall, I was proud of the effort.”

The Cougars continued the fast pace of play and, despite a comeback attempt late by the Eagles, Clarksville Academy was able to hold on for the victory.

“I was glad we were able to get a win for our seniors,” Cougar head coach Charles Clark said. “We got off to a quick start, and our ability to turn them over allowed us easy opportunities, and it was a great in-city win. Great effort overall, and the girls played really hard.”
