CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – The goal of most high school football teams is to build and maintain a winning and successful culture, all while developing character among players. There are many ways to go about that.
On Tuesday, the Clarksville Academy Cougars took a whole new approach to defining teamwork and accountability. The day started with a 2-hour class followed by 3 hours of team building activities in which the classroom principles are applied in 90-degree weather, all orchestrated by former Navy Seals.
Stonewall-Solutions is a program that provides a fundamental foundation of team culture and mental skills for athletic programs. The program is headed up by former NCAA D1 Athlete and Navy SEAL, Jason Kuhn.
“CA did great. They paid attention for two hours in a classroom then got after it on the field. It was a hot and hard day and they kept bringing intensity throughout,” Kuhn said. “By the end, I believe they cared for each other and their cause so much that most would never quit, no matter what we asked of them. They just missed the Tennessee state record for the Tire Flip Challenge by .13 of a second. Not bad for a team with 35 players. I was very proud of them.”
Head coach Todd Hood knows there’s more to the game than x’s and o’s.
“I brought Stonewall-Solutions in for an alternative method of teaching our student-athletes leadership, character, and true brotherhood,” Hood said. “This is more than football. It’s about growing our young men with great character for their future endeavors. The training they received in the classroom and on the field was a true test of their character, manhood, and teamwork skills.”
The team has also been training at Title Boxing in the last few weeks.
“I know our players get tired of my voice from time to time so it’s nice to let other people train them in a variety of skills. Chris Bender of Title Boxing is a great sponsor of ours and Title Boxing does a great job of training our players and our players love to go train there,” Hood said.
