CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Academy Cougars hosted the Donelson Christian Academy Wildcats for a region contest Friday. The game was also the Tennessee Titans’ High School Game of the Week. DCA scored early and often to pull away for a 40-0 region victory, and Clarksville Academy fell to 0-4 in region play.
Turnovers were the Achilles’ heel of the Cougars, as the first score for the Wildcats was off a turnover on downs that gave them a short field. Quarterback King Gardner punched it in two possessions in a row for a quick lead. The Cougars then threw three interceptions in the second quarter, but DCA was only able to capitalize on one of them, scoring one more touchdown before the half for a 20-0 lead.

“Injuries and lack of depth have really hurt us this year,” said Cougars head coach Steadman Bell. “Our defense played well overall. They played physical and fast, were able to get a few huge stops, but offensively, we just couldn’t get it going.”
The Cougar defense kept DCA off the board for most of the third quarter until the closing seconds, when receiver Grayson Scragg caught a strike from Gardner to extend the lead. The Wildcats got two more touchdowns on the board in the fourth quarter, and the Cougars were unable to respond.

What’s next for Cougars?
The Wildcats head into their bye week on a two-game losing streak, with only two region games remaining to try and sneak into the playoffs.
“We’ve got two region games left, so our attention turns to that,” said Bell. “This was not Clarksville Academy football, but much respect to DCA, they came in here and played well. We just have to be better and look to finish the season strong.”
