CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – If you’ve driven to Clarksville from Nashville within the last few days, you may have been confused by a sign on the westbound lanes of I-24. The sign currently says “Clarksburg,” but it should say “Clarksville.”
Clarksville Now reached out to City Mayor Joe Pitts, who said he asked the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) for help in correcting the issue.
“Everyone makes mistakes and deserves an opportunity to correct them. I’ve sent another photo of the issue to TDOT, asking for their help,” Pitts told Clarksville Now.
TDOT has confirmed the mistake and said it is on its way to being corrected.
“We’re aware of the issue and will have a crew out tonight to fix it,” said Rebekah Hammonds, Region 3 Community Relations Officer for TDOT. “We’re working to upgrade and replace a lot of signs throughout the region, but unfortunately this mistake slipped through the cracks.”
Hammonds told Clarksville Now the sign has been up for two days; however, she did not detail how the mistake happened.
