CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) crews have corrected a sign on the westbound lanes of I-24 in Nashville that read “Clarksburg” instead of “Clarksville.” The issue was reported last week, but apparently another sign also had an issue.
According to Clarksville Now news partner WKRN News 2, the sign for the Murfreesboro Road exit read Exit 53, when it should have read Exit 52. Both errors have been corrected, and TDOT has now explained where exactly the mistakes were made.
Rebekah Hammonds, Region 3 spokesperson for TDOT, attributed the “Clarksburg” error to a breakdown in communication between the contractor and the subcontractor.
“We know that with the design, it was correct, but from the contractor to the subcontractor, that’s where the mistake was made,” Hammonds said. “At the end of the day, the buck stops at us. We know that this is our responsibility, no matter who put it up or didn’t.”
When it came to addressing the wrong exit number, TDOT said it was a design consultant group that originally wrote the wrong exit number and that the mistake got passed down the line.
The exit number was fixed on Friday, and the “Clarksburg” sign was corrected Thursday evening.
