CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Street Department is nearing completion of a sidewalk project along Peachers Mill Road that extends 6,500 feet.

The new city sidewalk project is just one of many that are either already under construction, or are in the planning and design phase, according to a City of Clarksville news release. The projects is part of the mayor’s 2020+ Transportation Plan.

The sidewalk is set to complement the pedestrian overpass at 101st Airborne Division Parkway and is the final piece allowing connectivity between: Tiny Town Road, the Clarksville Greenway, Heritage Park, Bel-Aire Park, Kenwood School Complex, Byrns Darden Elementary School and Providence Boulevard.

“This project is particularly satisfying to me, since it is happening where I grew up and walked to school every day at Byrns Darden,” said Mayor Joe Pitts. “As the area continues to grow, adults and children alike now have a safe place to walk from their neighborhood to schools and parks.”

The sidewalk along the west side of Peachers Mill from Providence to Dale Terrace is a 5 feet wide with handicapped-accessible ramps, a mixture of retaining walls and stormwater drainage features, according to the release. As of Friday, Nov. 1, about 6,000 feet of the new sidewalk had been built.
