CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Mayor Kim McMillan has received notice that the City of Clarksville will receive $488,000 in grant funding from the State of Tennessee, Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).
The funding, which was received as part of a competitive grant application process, is for the renovation of the Swan Lake Aquatic Center and Kids Splash Park.
In total, TDEC will award $15.8 million in Local Park and Recreation grants to 55 different communities. In 1991, the Tennessee General Assembly established the program to provide local governments with funds to purchase land for parks, natural areas, greenways and recreational facilities and, among other things, projects in parks.
“I am so proud of our team and the grant application they put together,” Mayor McMillan said. “As we know, this kind of grant funding is more important than ever. I appreciate TDEC’s leadership in administering these funds and for their support of Clarksville’s project.”
The proposed upgrades to the Swan Lake aquatic site include: install new main drains and drain covers; replace outdated plumbing; re-plaster the entire pool shell; replace/repair the concrete deck; re-gel the slide; complete bathhouse renovation to include expansion for the women’s locker room and restroom and creation of a new men’s bath house section to be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); replace the existing outdated kids pool with a new Kids Spray Grounds; bathhouse painting and entrance renovation; parking lot refurbishment; new ADA walkways from parking lot to entrance; new perimeter lighting to allow for night swims and activities; and other new aquatic amenities such as a Drop slide, rental pavilions and cabanas, shade structures and fencing. The grant will assist with architectural and engineering costs as well.
