CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Fireworks tents are popping up all over the city, and residents are stocking up on sparklers and big-boom varieties.

Although they are available for purchase, fireworks are not permitted within city limits for most of the year.

The City of Clarksville has certain restrictions for the use of fireworks during the Independence Day holiday.

According to the city ordinance, fireworks can be used within city limits July 1 through 5 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. only.*

Other than these dates, it is unlawful to explode, fire, shoot, or set off fireworks inside the corporate limits of the city. Violators are subject to a city citation.

Except for city conducted or sponsored events utilizing a professional pyrotechnics business, it is illegal to use fireworks in any city park, or recreational facility or property.

Any person under the age of sixteen is not permitted to use, explode, or possess any fireworks within the city limits unless they are under the direct supervision of an adult of at least eighteen years of age.

Use of fireworks can also be halted during this time frame in the event of a burn ban put in place by the city due to unusually dry weather.

Montgomery County does not have a fireworks ordinance.

*Fireworks can also be used within city limits for the New Year’s Eve holiday.
